Join us on our mission to cultivate mental wellness in the classical music world.
Our Mission
Our mission is to cultivate mental wellness in the classical music world. We empower musicians to be vulnerable and hold space for one another through interactive workshops, digital media, and open conversation. Together, we can end the stigma around mental health in classical music.
Our Vision
We envision a culture of musicians emphasizing compassion, vulnerability, and empathy for each other’s emotional well-being. In a community that values mental wellness and facilitates honest conversations, everyone can reach their fullest potential both as musicians and as humans.
Our Values
The guiding principles at the core of every decision we make are vulnerability, hope, inclusion, compassion, and empathy.
Defining Our Values
Vulnerability: We believe that musicians should not be afraid to speak truth to their experiences. We hold space for musicians to share their stories with one another and have open and honest conversations about mental health in the classical music world.
Hope: Sound Mind believes it gets better. We are shifting the culture of music-making so that artists can create in an environment that grows hope and prioritizes the wellbeing of its community.
Inclusion: Sound Mind believes that everyone belongs. The diverse voices of musicians from all walks of life and an absence of judgment are essential to having meaningful conversations that work towards ending the stigma around mental health. We believe that musicians from all backgrounds, abilities, sexual orientations, gender identities, and everything in between have a voice in this space that deserve to be heard.
Compassion: Sound Mind is building a culture among musicians that is focused on love, care, and concern for one another.
Empathy: Normalizing and fostering empathy among musicians is an essential step in improving how we relate to one another and ultimately creates a safer creative environment that promotes the wellbeing of the humans who occupy it.
